First Week of School Scoop

Dear Wildcats,

The first day of school is a joyous occasion and we look forward to seeing all our Wildcat families!  We ask that everyone remain calm, patient, positive and SAFE in valet, while parking and on campus.  It will be very busy on the first days of school.  We expect that many families will choose to walk their children onto campus and to their classrooms on the first day.  TK/Kinder parents are invited to come into the classroom and stay until 9:15AM.  Drop off and Pick Up will likely take longer than usual, as we get back in our Wildcat groove, and we ask that everyone allow for extra time and remain positive.

Please remember we have over 120 new families joining our community and learning our procedures.  Please be patient, kind and helpful!

Drop Off Beginning Day 2:

All parents are invited to join their children on the Blacktop before school.  When the bell rings, the children will go to their assigned line up spot (TBD).  Please hug and say goodbye to your Wildcat on the blacktop.

 Pick Up Beginning Day 2:

TK/Kindergarten - Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of the first week, parents will pick up their TK/K students at the classroom.  BEGINNING Thursday 8/22:   Please wait for your Kinder teachers to bring the Kindercats to the front of the school by the office.  They will walk the students to the front of the school and release the students to their parents.  ESS will pick up the students from the teachers.

1st – 5th:   Please arrange an assigned spot for you to meet your child after school. Students should wait no longer than 10 minutes after their school day. Remind your child to come to the office after 10 minutes to call home.  A reminder to families that the 4th and 5th grades are in session 10 minutes longer than the primary students. It would be greatly appreciated by teachers and upper grade students if primary children could meet their parents on the world map, or other designated area for pickup. Visiting and hanging outside near the upper grade classrooms becomes distracting for the students still in class. Teachers are often wrapping up for the day and imparting important information to the upper grade students. Every instructional minute is valuable. Thank you for helping us to insure that all of our students receive quality instructional time.

Supervision is provided beginning at 8:10 am. Students should not be on campus prior to that time (Running Club is M, W, F beginning at 8:00AM). When students arrive, we ask that they go directly to the blacktop area where supervision is provided. Parents who are accompanying their child(ren) should go there as well. The white-top area is off-limits prior to school in the mornings. Students are to keep their backpacks with them until they walk to their respective classes. Beginning the second day of school, students will line up on their designated class number on the blacktop. The teachers will come out to pick up their students.

TK/Kindergarten parents will walk their child to the classroom.

New Parent Night:  If you are new to ACE, please join us for a New Parent Night on August 14th from 6:00-7:00PM.  We will cover everything you need to know to start the year off successfully.  We will meet in the MPR.

Class Placements:  Class assignments will be available at the Round Up.  Please remember that we do not accept specific teacher requests regarding class placement. All class assignments will be temporary placements the first 5 - 10 days, so that we can ensure balanced classrooms. As you can imagine, there are numerous factors to consider throughout our placement process some of which include: balancing class demographics (numbers of boys and girls), academic level, learning style, behavior, social/emotional and special education and language needs just to name some. This is a complex and mindful process, so thank you in advance for honoring our procedures regarding classroom placement.  If you would like to schedule a meeting regarding your child’s placement after August 24th, please call 454-5575.

Coffee with the Principal:  Join Principal Aderman and other Wildcat parents for an informal monthly coffee chat in the MPR to talk about Wildcat happenings and programs.  We will meet the 4th Thursday  of the month from 8:45AM - 9:30AM.
