Multiplication/Division Mastery

There is no standardized way of teaching times tables. Methodologies vary from child-centered approaches to more didactic rote learning. However it is done, it has remained a vital part of the curriculum for good reason. When the recall becomes automatic, it speeds up a child’s mental and written math enormously, taking away the stress of having to make calculations before applying results to solving problems.

It is important for children to know as many table facts as possible off by heart. There are many ways of learning tables and your child will respond to different strategies such as singing, reciting, writing, playing games, making up rhymes and many more. Most important is to make it fun and do a little often.

Don’t worry if your child appears to be struggling to learn their tables. There are many strategies you can try to help them. Most of all be supportive and make it a fun activity.

 

 

IDEAS, TIPS & TECHNIQUES: 

  • We suggest starting with the 0, 1, 2, 5, 10 and 11s times tables then teach the 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9s.
