Livermore Management Association Honors Community Partners, Students, and Staff

June 30, 2021- Livermore, CA - Annually, the Livermore Management Association (LMA) recognizes staff, students, and community members for their outstanding contributions to the Livermore Valley Joint Unified (LVJUSD) community. On June 18, 2021, the LMA Annual Award Celebration was held virtually to honor those whose achievements and commitment to excellence helped make the 2020-21 school year a success.

LVJUSD’s community partners were celebrated for their work in the service of student health and education. LMA recognized Safeway Regional NorCal Pharmacies as the 2021 Partner in Education. This year’s major challenge was the pandemic. Safeway Regional Norcal Pharmacies came forward multiple times and helped to vaccinate thousands of teachers, staff, students and families of LVJUSD and the Livermore community. “The Safeway pharmacy team members were there setting up in the early mornings, staying until late at night, never wasting a dose, making sure our community was safe and healthy,” said Kelly Bowers, Ed.D., Superintendent of Schools. “Our community vaccination clinics are making a lasting impact, making sure we never have to close our schools again, and for this we are truly grateful”

The Student Education Loan Fund (SELF) was honored as the 2021 Friend of Education for offering interest-free loans to students and Livermore residents to help finance college, vocational, or other forms of continuing education. Almost a million dollars in loans have been provided since SELF first began in 1963. The award was presented to Pat Cavanaugh, President of SELF, and to David Darlington and T.J. Gilmartin, representing all members of the board. “SELF board members work tirelessly to provide that important, additional funding often needed by our graduates to continue their education. These interest-free loans are truly a gift to our community,” said Philomena Rambo, LVJUSD Director of Community Engagement.

LMA awarded three scholarships, each to an outstanding senior at Granada High School (GHS) and Livermore High School (LHS). The Rios-Haggerty Business Scholarship is awarded to seniors who have excelled in courses in the business department and who plan careers in some aspect of business ownership or management. The 2021 scholarships were given to Isabel Alluzi, GHS senior, and to Karan Samtani, LHS senior.

The First Generation Scholarship was awarded to two outstanding students who will also be the first in their families to attend college: GHS senior Andrea Munoz, and LHS senior Leslie Asenet Vera. “We are dedicated to encouraging and rewarding students who want to continue their educational experience and will be the first in their family to do so,” said Valerie Nebo, LMA President.

LMA also honored two students who completed a service-oriented project and demonstrated how the project has positively impacted traditionally underserved members of our community. “This Award celebrates the beginning of their journeys in becoming socially responsible leaders while maintaining strong commitments to their academics,” said Nebo. Navitha Madineni, from GHS, and Sarah Ansell, from LHS, received the 2021 Community Service Scholarship.
