Register for Modified Quarantine Student COVID-19 Testing

English - LVJUSD Health and Safety/Modified Quarantine Information Video - 9/15/2021

Spanish - LVJUSD Health and Safety/Modified Quarantine Information Video - 9/15/2021

The following information was sent to families on September 14, 2021 and includes a link to register and provide consent for your student to participate in our District hosted modified quarantine COVID-19 student testing.

Our primary goal as we educate our students throughout this year is to keep students at school and in classrooms for in-person instruction, for we know this is how students learn best. We also know that minimizing the interruption of the daily in-person attendance of students best supports you, our families, as you continue to manage your own work and family schedules during this time.

We are pleased to announce that our student modified quarantine and COVID-19 testing program, in partnership with the California Public Health Department (CDPH) and BayPLS (our mobile testing agency), will begin next week and will help us to achieve the goal of keeping students in school. This testing will allow for a modified quarantine option for unvaccinated students who have had a close contact COVID-19 exposure on campus.

We know there are many questions surrounding modified quarantine and testing and we hope the following information will further explain and address those questions. The intent of this message is to provide the following information:

  • The definition and details of modified quarantine

  • What student COVID-19 testing entails

  • How to provide consent for your student to be tested

  • Alternatives to modified quarantine

Additionally, we will be hosting two Modified Quarantine & COVID-19 Testing Informational Webinars on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 to explain the modified quarantine and student COVID-19 testing process, and to answer clarifying questions submitted by viewers. In the event that not all questions are answered during the webinar, further FAQs will be developed and added to our website. The webinars will be recorded and posted to our District website for additional viewing opportunities.

  • Spanish presentation at 6:00pm on Google Meet with LVJUSD Director of Human Resources, Kelly Manke and LVJUSD Bilingual Communications Specialist, Veronica Ferreira Maya.

  • English presentation at 6:30pm on Zoom with Deputy Superintendent Chris Van Schaack and Director of Student Services, Darrel Avilla

Modified Quarantine
Modified Quarantine is defined as a period of time (typically 7-10 days) during which students may continue in-person instruction as long as they are:

  • asymptomatic;

  • tested twice-weekly either at school through our District hosted testing agency or by the supervised administration of tests with a healthcare professional or provider;

  • not participating in extracurricular activities (on or off campus) during the time of modified quarantine.

Modified Quarantine applies to:

  • Unvaccinated, asymptomatic students who were exposed through close contact to a COVID-19 positive case in a school setting.

Modified Quarantine does NOT apply to:

  • Fully vaccinated students: A copy of a student’s vaccination card on file at school allows them to continue to attend in-person instruction when exposed to a positive COVID-19 case as long as they are asymptomatic.

  • Students who were exposed to a positive COVID-19 case outside the school setting (i.e. family gathering, community event.)

On-Campus COVID-19 Student Testing
As mentioned above, twice-weekly COVID-19 testing is required for participation in modified quarantine. Having your student tested through our District-hosted, on-campus testing program is a timely and convenient way to participate in modified quarantine.

What to Know About Student COVID-19 Testing:

  • On-campus testing is free.

  • Only students who have had a parent or guardian complete a testing registration and consent form can participate.

  • Parents will still receive a notice of exposure prior to testing.

  • Testing will involve a self-administered nasal swab. Our dedicated testing team will provide students with instructions and modeling for completing the test.

  • Using the contact information provided on the testing registration and consent form, parents will be notified of their student’s test result approximately 24 hours after it was administered.

    • If your student receives a negative test result, they will continue to come to school and adhere to all modified quarantine protocols until complete.

    • If your student receives a positive test result, they will need to begin isolation protocols immediately. LVJUSD staff will contact you in the event of a positive test result to provide further instruction.

How to Register for Student Testing:

  • Complete the testing registration and consent form. A QR code for the form can also be found on the homepage of our District website as well as each school’s website.

    • The form is available in multiple languages and asks only basic information. You will not be asked to provide health insurance details or any highly personal information such as a Social Security number.

    • Once you complete the registration, you will be asked to verify your phone number and email address.

    • Should you have any difficulty registering, a helpline is available Monday - Friday from 8am-5pm at 1+(650) 275-5419.

Alternatives to Modified Quarantine
It is important to clarify that participating in modified quarantine and on-campus testing is an option and not a requirement. Alternative quarantine options include:

  • Quarantining at home for 10 days and returning on day 11 without testing.

  • Participating in a shortened quarantine which includes returning to school on day 8 (or later) if a test is taken on or after day 6 with a negative result. A qualifying test must be administered or supervised by a healthcare professional or provider.

Thank you for your continued support as we make ongoing adjustments in response to the dynamics of the pandemic.
