A Message from Principal Jones May 27, 2020

Hello Sunset Families,

I trust you were able to read through Philomena Rambo's email sent May 18; it contained end of the year wrap up information for our District's families and students.  To follow is an excerpt to be sure our Sunset families are informed on end of year wrap up, especially with tomorrow being our last day of distance learning for 2019-2020 school year.

May 29-June 5 teachers will be engaged in a variety of activities and trainings to close out our school year.

We also have our pick up and drop off event, which will be staffed by our para-professionals to assure it runs as smoothly, as possible.  I want to be sure you all have the link for our June 1-3 Pick Up and Drop Off Exchange Sign Up (it is by appointment only, as we are limiting visitors and groups on campus in adherence with our current social distancing efforts and protocols) - - - contact the Sunset Webmaster for the link.  Remember when signing up to do so with one box per family even if you have multiple students enrolled.

Excerpt from Philomena Rambo's May 18 email to LVJUSD families:
"Closing 2019-20
Distance Learning wraps up on Thursday, May 28, 2020. Students should plan on completing and submitting assignments by then. Teachers will use the remaining days to assess student learning, and will reach out directly to any students who have not yet earned credit for the trimester. Teachers will also be using this final week to participate in professional development that will enhance their expertise in supporting both in-person and distance learning. Students are encouraged to make use of the many online enrichment opportunities posted on our website on the Distance Learning Resources Page, including those offered by the Livermore Library.

The last days of school are traditionally the time for final assessments as well as for celebrations. We will all miss the field days, promotions, and typical graduation ceremonies that have come to mark the end of school. Our middle school promotions will be virtual, and will take place on Thursday, June 4. The Class of 2020 will participate in a scaled-down individualized celebration that is in compliance with guidelines set forth by the Alameda County Public Health Department. Principals will be sharing detailed information with students and families.

As a reminder, report cards will look a little different this trimester. Elementary students will receive a “Not Evaluated” (“NE”) mark, along with comments about their progress on essential standards in English Language Arts and math. Middle and high school students will receive course marks of “Credit” or, if necessary, “No Credit.” There will be no letter grades."

As we head into summer vacation, I want to say thank you for partnering with us as educators.  It has been an unreal journey with so much learning and experience gained.  As information develops regarding next school year, we will certainly communicate with families; this could be directly from me or via our District Office.  Please be on the lookout for surveys and consider completing them; information gained from families is extremely important to us.
