  • Dear Livermore Parents and Guardians,

    Our LVJUSD Distance Learning Plan for students officially began on March 19, 2020. Our entire team worked proactively to create a plan for teachers to share curriculum and interact and engage with students, using flexible and accessible strategies. While Governor Newsom has instituted a state-wide Shelter in Place Order and has suggested that the school dismissal period has the potential of extending beyond April 13th, no official decisions have been made at any level regarding school dismissal past that date. Any decision will be made with guidance from the State of California. Nevertheless, our District is planning for every contingency. Should school be postponed beyond Spring Break, the focus of remote learning will continue to be aligned with California standards and our pacing guides. We appreciate your partnership and your patience in this endeavor, as it has been an unprecedented situation for our students and educators.

    LVJUSD’s Distance Learning Plan is intended to support students by engaging in independent and flexible learning opportunities in an online setting. In order to participate, students will need an internet connection and a device which is capable of logging onto the student’s Google account. We have distributed Chromebooks at each campus this week and Comcast has opened its network in Livermore at no cost. If you would like to request a Chromebook and have not already done so, you may use this form: Chromebook Loan Request Form. 

    Students and families should have received communication from their teacher(s) this week with details about each teacher’s distance learning plan and materials.

    • Students will receive feedback on their learning periodically throughout the duration of distance learning; however, per current State guidelines, formal grades will not be reported at this time.  
    • Questions on curriculum and individual student progress should be directed to teachers via email or the online platform the teacher is using. We anticipate a higher volume of electronic communication during this time, so please be patient with our teachers. 
    • Our understanding is that standardized testing has been canceled for Spring 2020 by the State of California.  We will update high school students on AP, IB, graduation requirements, and college entrance assessments as we receive further guidance from the California Department of Education. These decisions will be made at a State and/or  National level.   
    • Summer School and Extended School Year registration are all temporarily paused as we move forward.  We will update you regarding summer offerings as information becomes available from the State of California. 
    • No distance learning will be held during our already scheduled Spring Break from April 6th - April 13th. That week will be a time for families and staff to shift gears. Our teachers and staff are not expected to be accessible during Spring Break.

    We thank you for your flexibility and patience while we implement this plan. We developed our plan in conjunction with the many Federal and State guidelines necessary to provide equitable access for all of our students. Our district is planning for every contingency so that we provide continual learning opportunities for our students. In the event that our district-wide school dismissal period extends beyond Spring Break, the focus of distance learning will continue to be aligned with California standards and our pacing guides.

    While academics is certainly a priority in any school district, we also recognize the importance of providing for social emotional support for students, especially during uncertain times. Our counselors are compiling resources that will be available on our website. In addition, please know that 6th - 8th grade students may reach out to their counselors via email to request a phone call or correspondence during this time.

    As a reminder, our Child Nutrition Services Department is distributing food at no charge for all children aged 18 and under from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. Monday - Friday over the next two weeks. Children will be provided with a “grab and go” breakfast and lunch (2 meals) during this time. Food will be available for pickup only at the front of the school at:

    • Junction Avenue K-8 School (298 Junction Avenue)
    • Marylin Avenue Elementary School (800 Marylin Avenue)
