Dr. Kelly Bowers
Superintendent Bowers has led the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (ADA 13,500), since 2010. She has extensive public education experience: thirteen years teaching all levels in urban and suburban settings, and twenty-one years in site and district-level administration. Her leadership has been honored by the Association of California School Administrators, American Association of University Women, Phi Delta Kappa, Phi Beta Kappa, CSU East Bay, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, and the California State Assembly.
Dr. Bowers ensures equity, creating opportunities for all students to contribute and thrive. As Superintendent, she spearheaded the development of specialized academic programs: Dual Immersion, Green Engineering/Biotech, AVID, TK-12 Project Lead the Way, Middle College, and International Baccalaureate, offering diverse paths to success.
Over the years, Dr. Bowers, an active Rotarian, member of the Livermore Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and co-chair of the Innovation Tri-Valley (ITV) Education and Workforce Development Committee, has worked with a myriad of community partners to cultivate STEM/STEAM education and enrichment opportunities for all students, particularly young women and those who are traditionally under-represented, as well as expand scholarships, internships and professional development opportunities for young alumni and educators.
During her tenure, the Livermore community supported passage of a $250 million bond to ensure renovated and new state-of-the-art facilities on 18 campuses, as well as two parcel tax renewals to fully fund elementary Science and Technology Specialists and keep Livermore schools at the cutting edge of innovation. Under her leadership, Lawrence Elementary School was established, in direct tribute to the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, a staunch community partner.
Dr. Bowers advocates for the whole child, through behavioral, social-emotional learning, and overall wellness. LVJUSD is a national leader in anti-vaping efforts, as well as in providing mental health resources for students, staff, and families, including Teen Mental Health First Aid (tMFHA).
As a first-generation college attendee, Dr. Bowers is committed to leveraging her UC Berkeley doctoral studies and pivotal educational leadership role to act as a change agent and improve upon the status quo for the betterment and empowerment of our next generation.
