Degrees and Certifications:
Hello Students and Families!
This is my fifth year at LHS and fifteenth year teaching. I earned my B.A. in English from UCLA and my SB2042 teaching credential from UCI. While teaching, I have also spent time as a freelance writer, editor, and proofreader, mostly with publishers of educational materials. If you open up a teacher resource from Sadlier or AMSCO, there is a chance you will see my maiden name, Ivana Orloff, in the credits. Although my name won't appear in print, there are many, many, many resources from Teacher Created Materials that I have proofread. I also spent some time as a writing coach for Sponsors for Educational Opportunity, a nonprofit organization based in San Francisco, guiding students from underserved communities in writing college application and scholarship essays.
I am a mom to my amazing six-year old son and three-year old daughter. I think teaching helps make me a better parent and parenting makes me a better teacher. This year, I am on a part time schedule, only teaching periods one and two, which I feel allows me to give more to my home kids as well as my school kids.
I am of Serbian and Russian heritage and was born in the former Yugoslavia, but I came to the U.S. as a baby. I grew up in Southern California and moved to the Bay Area in 2014 to be closer to my husband's extended family (having a village help you raise your children is invaluable). We bought our first home in Livermore in 2015, and we were able to convince my mother to move from Southern California into our home in 2018, so now we have yet another doting grandparent of our children within cheek-squeezing distance.
Life is good!
