Headlines & Features

  • Spelling Bee

On Wednesday, January 13th, Leo R. Croce Elementary held their annual Spelling Bee via Zoom. Although it was in a very different format than how we usually hold it, the Bee was absolutely amazing like always! Our Spelling Bee lasted 56 rounds and was over three hours long! There are 88 4th Graders and 87 5th Graders, a total of 175 students tested to see if they advanced to our Spelling Bee! Each 4th/5th Grade class has two Participants and one Alternate to represent them. Alternates are used if a Participant is unable to attend. Participants and Alternates studied the 225 Word List over their Winter Break. This year’s Spelling Bee Champion is Sarina Battisti, a 5th Grader from Mrs. Valverde’s class, with the winning word of “migrants”. Our Runner-Up is Tyler Vo, a 5th Grader from Mr. Lockhart’s class. Both Sarina and Tyler will represent Leo R. Croce Elementary at the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District Spelling Bee on Wednesday, February 17th. Sarina will also continue in the Scripps National Spelling Bee Program, by taking an online Spelling Test to see if she advances forward to the Alameda County Bee. We wish them both the best of luck!
